After attending the Positive Youth Development Ski, Snowboarding & Tubing Trip, please answer the following questions in EXPLANATION format.

  • Based on your knowledge of the hazards of smoking, why would a user have difficulty doing physical activities in high altitudes?
  • How would the long term affects of smoking affect a persons ability to enjoy their life over time?
  • How did your physical abilities limit your participation in activities in the snow (balance, stamina, coordination, physical fitness, mental attitude, etc.) ? Did you feel the ‘Natural High’ from a drug free activity day? Explain.

A smoker would have difficulty being on a physical activities in high altitudes because their body temperture would be low, and for a smoker it takes longer for the body to get warm.

The long term effects of a smoker would effect the abiltity to enjoy there life because some people do not like being around smokers. People who have smoked most of there life, smoke about a pack a day; so they would constitny be needing to take a break to have a smoke. Smoking effects there abilty to enjoy there life also because it has harmfull effects on the body, and the person could get cancer.

I felt a rush in the tubing activty, going down hill at a fast rate gave me ah rush.My balence was off when walking in the snow. I got a head ache from not being in my usual enviroment. my body was cold and hot at the same time because of the snow, it was hot because the sun was piercing over the mountains.

Smokers would have difficulty doing physical activities because their lungs are all black and filled of tar and don’t work as great as healthy lungs. So if they were to be doing a lot of snowboarding or skiing they would be out of breath a lot quicker. They would have breathing problems.

If someone smoked for a long time and had to get surgery and ended up with a hole in their throat they would not be able to swim and they would have a hard time talking. They could possibly lose limbs from cuts that developed infections which would make it harder to do things like running, swimming, or playing around.

I would lose my balance trying to walk in parts of the snow. I was laughing a lot and had a good time, you could say it was a natural high.

The snow trip I had with Calvine was a great experience I won’t forget. I Snowboarded through the whole entire day, and on our way to the snow trip, we even had video lecture on why tobacco is bad for you.

We even got to fill out a packet on listing why it’s bad for you and how not using tobacco can benefit you. When we finally got there, we got to rent out snow gear, and got the fresh taste of how it felt being in the cold, icy snow. Snowboarding I’d say was the most fun for me even though I fell many times, and ate the snow badly I STILL loved it. But there was a part where I messed up pretty bad.

That I just didn’t mess up my snowboarding’ I messed up my camera as well too. I don’t really regret messing up my camera, even though it doesn’t turn on’ right no more. And I can’t take pictures. Or the screen only says Lens error. I messing up my camera got to let me capture the moment of me going down the hill. And going really fast. Having a good time. [Even though I can't see it on the camera.] Oh… and what I also got to do on the snowtrip was get over one of my fears. This is fear of Heights. When I rode the lift up to the Hill at first I was hyperventilating, and closing my eyes really tight. But after the first ten tries’ I got the hang of it. I think mainly one of the reasons why I liked snowboarding was the adrenaline rush it gave me.

This snow trip was both educational and fun. Smoking however would limit you from going on a trip like trip like this because snowboarding/skiing requires great lung capacity an smokers will have a hard time to cope with this kind of environmental change smoking shortens your life. In a scientific study results showed smoking can take off 13.2 years of your life, not to mention how miserable you’ll be because you can’t perform simple tasks that non-smokers can. As a non-smoker though, I had a good time ^_^. I learned how to snowboard in no time flat, and with superior lung capacity I didn’t pass out or anything which is a win in my book. The overall lesson here is I went on a trip and didn’t die but others also went on a trip and did die sadly. Just don’t smoke!

A smoker would have more difficulty in high altitudes because there lungs are not healthy like a regular person because smoking messes up the lungs turning them black and causing cancer.

It would be hard for a smoker to enjoy there lifes fully beacause smoking causes so many problems like tooth decaying (stained teath) , bad breath, bad hygiene and causes lung problems, so over time a smoker is going to have some type of lung disorder or problem.

I like the tubing and snowboarding they both were easy to balance and also both gave me a rush. It was hard to walk on the snow. I slipped like ten times.

    Snowboarding/Ski Trip

A smoker would have a difficult time in high altitude, because of their difficulty breathing. The air is thinner in higher altitudes and makes it harder to breathe. With smoker’s lungs, it’s very difficult to breathe. Their lungs are full of tar and don’t contract and release like healthy lungs do.

Smoking cause many difficulties in the long run. Not only does it cause many types of cancer and other diseases, but it also causes difficulties in breathing. Doing everyday things becomes very hard. Even walking up the stairs can become a laboring task.

I didn’t have any limitations in the snow activities. I went on the field trip with a good attitude and expecting to have a good day, which in turn helped me to have a good time. I think I did have a “Natural High” on the field trip, because I was with my friends, I had a good attitude and I didn’t need drugs or any other stimulants to help me have fun.

    Snowboarding/Ski Trip

A smoker has a hard time doing physical activities in high altitudes because they would have a hard time breathing. They have so much tar build up in their lungs. Since there is so much tar build up the air sacs don’t expand anymore like they do in a none smoker. So it is much harder to breath in high altitudes then in low altitudes.

The Long term effects of smoking affect a person’s ability to enjoy their lives over time by not being able to do the things they love to do. They might get cancer when they are older and lose the ability to care for themselves. Their family and friends would have to watch their loved ones suffer for what they did to their lives. They would look older and less attractive.

Your physical abilities limit your participation in activities in the snow because you have less oxygen up in the mountains. Your coordination is off because of not smoking while you are in the snow. Your mental attitude is way off. You are cranky and tried until you can have a smoke. I always feel the natural high. I think smoking is pointless when you can just take deep breathes and release your stress that way. I think we should have more snow trips in the future.

    Snow trip
A smoker would have problems doing physical activities in the snow because the air is thinner and they have more difficulty breathing because the tar built up in their lungs makes it harder for their lungs to expand.

Being a smoker would make your life over time a lot harder because of the risk of cancer and other smoking caused problems. It can affect you and the people you love because second hand smoke can also hurt the people you are around most.

My physical ablities affected my day on the snow trip becase I have really horrible balance so I didn’t try to snow board however I did enjoy tubing with a lot of my friends from here at Calvine it wasn’t a very strenuous work out or anything it was a day of snow fun. I guess you could say it was a natural high from a drug free day in the snow.

People who smoke would have a hard time breathing at the high climate because the air around them is much thinner their.

Well a long term affect would be a hole in the neck that goes strait to the lungs, so you would’nt be able to swim painful to breath and diffucult to deal with.

Well i was quite all right I was ok with balance, coordination, physical fitness, mental attitude, the only thing was I got a little bit tierd at the end of the day. Kinda of like I loved being there with my friends and just hangin out staying cool.

  • 10    Jenna W. // Mar 11, 2008 at 1:26 pm

People that smoke tend to not be able to breathe and run as easy as people that dont smoke. Being in high altitude has thinner air making it harder for smokers to breathe or do activities that take a lot of lung use.

Cigarettes may cause problems like cancer making life hard to enjoy. They also have thousands of chemicals that may respond with your body creating diseases such as Burgers disease. A pack of cigerettes costs about 5 dollars a pack taking out of money that could be spent on hobbies or college.

Personally, I was only slightly affected my balance, stamina, coordination, and mental attitude was fine. Being in the snow drug free was great, there was a natural engery. Yes I felt the “Natural High” as I went tubing , flying down the hill was a great feeling. Being outdoors in the snow was a truely amazing natural high.

    Snow Trip

A smoker would have problems participating in the activities because the tar built up in their lungs over the period in which they have smoked would cause them to have shortness of breath and limited mobility depending on the activity they chose.

A lifetime of smoking would cause a lot of physical and mental differences in the person. The mental addicition would make it hard for them to go on throughout the day without a cigarette. The physical changes that they undergo make them look older than they really are, it also limits their capacity to do anything strenuos like sports or any physical activities.

My physical abilities did not limit me a whole lot. I was able to try snowboarding around three times (I failed horribly) but I did atleast try. I did feel a “high” while I was snowboarding, but then again it could have been whenever I smashed my head into the snow. Altogether it was a fun trip and I learned alot.

The snow trip was so cool. I had alot of fun being with my friends and snowboarding. It was a great way to show all of us at Calvine High that there is so much more we can do instead of smoking.

I loved it – even that ride there was fun. The teachers showed a movie on the bus, it was about people who had chose to start smoking around the age we are now. After watching the movie I felt a little sick, because of the way some of the people looked and sounded.

There was a part in the movie that made me really sad. That was when the woman came on with cancer in her voice box, and she was trying to explain some of the things that went on in her life. All the pain she was in, how hard it was to go on a date and how she is reminded everyday that what she has will stay with her for that rest of her life.

What hit me though is when she said how hard it is for her kids and how when they were babies she couldn’t even sing to them. I know that’s hard because when I have kids thats the one thing I want to do is sing for them.

I never had a problem with smoking weed. It was just somthing I never wanted to do. But because of that video I dont ever want to touch another cigarette again. I’ll just have to find some other way to let out stress.

As for that snowboarding, I don’t think I’m going to do that again any time soon. First time snowboarding and my fisrt time in the emergency room. But I still had fun.

    Snow Trip

It is difficult for smokers to do physical activities in high altitudes, because the air is thin so it makes it harder to breath. So it’s very hard for smokers move around or to really have fun in the snow.

Some of the long term affects is cancer and other medical problems. Most of the medical problems can’t ever be cured, so all the people that now have them will always was have them.

As for me, I had alot of fun going snowboarding. I felt that natural high being in the mountains and enjoying myself. Even though I was sore the next day it was worth it.

Based on my knowledge of the hazards of smoking, user would have difficulty doing physical activities in high altitudes because they might run out of breath. For example: When you climb mountains at a certain height you won’t be able to breathe because you get tired fast. Also because a smokers lungs are not healthy and can have short breath more easily than a non-smoker.

Long term affects of smoking affect a persons ability to enjoy their life over time because they can’t be as active to play with their children or activities as well because they will have a hard time breathing. Also, smoking for a long period of time can cause lung cancer and having to go through treatments to get cured will not be the time to enjoy your life. Also you wouldn’t want to kill your loved ones with second hand smoke.

My physical abilities limited my participation in activities in the snow because my balance was not as good as it used to be because I’m not as active as I was, my coordination was good except that I kept on falling off. I did feel the “Natural High” from a drug free activity day because I felt that going to the snow was very fun. It’s something I never experienced before, and I would do this again someday. But I felt that you don’t need drugs to make you happy and to have fun. After the trip I felt that I needed to do more exercise and I will make it happen so I can be more active to go bak to the snow!

Based on my knowledge of the hazards of smoking, user would have difficulty doing physical activities in high altitudes because you could run out of breath. It is also harder to breathe cause the air is thinner so that makes it very hard to breathe to so if you smoke it makes it even harder to breathe.

Plus smokers cant have all the fun the want to have because the really cant do anything cause the will lose there breather quickier than a non smoker. and smoking comes with many problems like bad breath, yellow teeth, lung cancerand if you do it for to long you will probably die from it.

I enjoyed being at the snow it gave me such a rush snowboarding. But for a while it was hard to learn but I think I got the hang of it just a little though, but it is something I will do again.
